Derek is a light brahma and the flock's second-in-command — a ranking he has never fully accepted and remains quietly furious about. He patrols the run with a face like thunder, filing complaints about everything of importance: sunrise, breakfast, a suspicious leaf. He is convinced that this time next year he'll be the one in charge. Fair warning: Derek does not enjoy being handled, stroked, or looked at for longer than he deems necessary, and he will tell you so at volume. Admire him from a respectful distance — he does his job well, mind you. Just don't expect a thank you.
